What Causes A Lump On The Knee Cap After A Fall?

I fell up the stair last night and rammed my knee into the corner of the step. Immediately following I could hardly walk on it and now have a lump on my kneecap with some bruising. It still hurts to bend my knee completely and hurts a little bit to walk. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Lump on a knee cap after a fall is indicative of serious injury, if neglected it may cause inability to move the knee, loss of pulses in the feet, uncontrolled pain or severe bleeding.

You are suggested to visit ER, take immediate medical aid & visit an Orthopedic at the earliest.

Get X-Ray & other Imaging tests are done to rule out Bursitis, Prepatellar bursitis, baker'S cyst, etc. Your treatment will depend upon the severity of the pathology detected.

You can take NSAIDs, Naproxen or Combiflam to get relieved from pain & inflammation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
