Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, yesterday I found a raised, hard lump on my mastoid bone behind my right ear. It's a bit tender to touch. Is it possible for it to be a swollen lymph node? Should I be concerned and how long is it safe to wait and see if it goes away on it's own. Thank you.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain hard lump on the mastoid bone seems to be most probably due to infection and inflammation causing Mastoiditis.
It is an infection of Mastoid bone leading to swelling and inflammation over the mastoid bone..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist or a General Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x ray, MRO scan and blood test can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller and cool compresses over it..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
