What Causes A Lump On The Top Of The Head?

I have a lump on the top of my head. It is about 1.5 wide by 3-4 long. It runs long ways down the crest of my head. It starts just above my forehead and runs back in the center/top of my head. I m 43. I had thyroid cancer, but was recently at Johns Hopkins with clean bill of health regarding that.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
It seems you may be having sebaceous cyst over your head. This the cyst formed in skin layer. It is spongy to feel.
If the mass is stony hard,it may be an outgrowth from skull bone.
Sebaceous cyst are mostly harmless. They are localized.
You need to visit surgeon to confirm its diagnosis by physical examination.
If they are large enough, they can be surgically excised.
Excision and biopsy or certain blood tests may be done if there is suspicion of other causes than sebaceous cyst.
If they become infected,i.e. they develop pain and redness,a course antibiotis will be prescribed like cipro /cephalexin for 5-7 days.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks.
