Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 15 year old daughter has a lump a little smaller than the size of a dime on the inside of her lower right leg (side of the calf). She says that it doesn t hurt but it moves around and there is a slight increase in size from a few days ago with some swelling noted around the lump. She plays soccer and gets kicked and cleated in the legs and ankles all the time. I just want to make sure it s not something serious that I need to take her in for right away or could this be a cyst that will eventually resolve itself?
A lump on inner side of leg close to calf can be any of the following: 1) Baker's cyst 2) Meniscal cyst 3) Popliteal cyst 4) Tibial subchondral cyst 5) Rheumatoid arthritis cysts 6) Cysts secondary to gouty arthritis 7) Ganglion cyst 8) Lipoma
It's not any emergency and not at all dangerous. You may have consultation of an orthopedic surgeon for a detailed clinical examination and any tests like X-ray knee and MRI. only then we can arrive at a specific diagnosis and initiate appropriate treatment.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Lump inside the lower right leg could be due to soft tissue swelling. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment and to assess whether any step is required at this stage. If the lump is asymptomatic then it can be kept under observation.
