Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been taking Effexor for about 3 months. He had severe constipation with a ball of very hard stool requiring an ER visit. During the time in the ER they did a CA Scan of his abdomen and found a mass in his liver. We do not know any more yet. Could this liver mass be caused by Effexor? My husband is not overweight and is 5 8 and barely weighs 137 lbs. nude.
Brief answer: No, there are no major liver related adverse events reported with use of Effexor (Venlafaxine).
Detailed answer: Though most of the antidepressants are known to cause some kind of hepatic (liver) injury, there are no reported major liver damage with use of Effexor, and certainly not on short term duration use of only 3 months. I would advise consulting with your doctor or a Gastro-enterologist for the possible diagnosis and cause of the liver mass. As it seems totally unrelated to the use of Effexor.
Hope this informations answers your question. Thank you.
