Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Painful Boil On The Lower Buttock Of A Child?
My 8 year old son has a boil on his lower buttock. It is about the size of a dime but has a red ring around it the size of my fist that is warm to touch. Using warm compresses which caused greenish discharge. I keep it covered and coated with bacitracin. Should I be concerned?
Your symptoms seem to be related to a folliculitis which is a an infection of the hair follicle. I suggest to clean the area with hydrogen peroxide. I also suggest using an antibiotic cream such as Neosporin cream for local application. I recommend using anti inflammatory medication such as Tylenol for the pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi General & Family Physician
