Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have went to the doctor previously for a hard non movable lump that started about 2 years ago behind my ear. It s not painful at all but is solid. I wake up frequently with excruciating pain if I lay on that side to the point I can t move. My ear drum is blown in that ear as well. It has a fullness feeling to it often but just keep getting told it s nothing to worry about. I ve never had a scan or work done on it though. Should I push for these things or is it not a worrying thing?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of painful hard lump behind the ear . Well there can be many reasons for lump behind the ear. In your case it seems to me that the lump is Mastoiditis . Sometimes you develop an ear infection and don’t get treatment, you may develop a more serious infection of the ear called mastoiditis. Apply warm compresses on lump , do not touch it again and again and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and inflammation . This infection develops in the bony protrusion behind the ear, which is called the mastoid. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI or blood test to confirm the diagnosis and rule out conditions like lipoma and lymphadenopathy. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics orally or administer it intravenously.
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
