Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, over the last two days I have developed a lump in my earlobe that is very tender to the touch; the skin above the lump is hot as well. The lump is not localized around a piercing, nor have I worn earrings in a very long time. Given the sensitive and hot skin around the lump, it appears to be some sort of infection. Do you recommend seeing my physician to drain this kind of lump? I will be calling him tomorrow, but given the high intensity of pain, I m interested to know whether drainage is an option and also whether this is something more serious or urgent than I originally thought. Thanks!
Hi, drainage of the lump will be required if the swelling shows signs of an abcess under antibiotic coverage. It can only be decided by your doctor after proper examination. Till then take painkiller for acute pain and try to consult him as early as possible.
