What Causes A Painful Lump In The Middle Of The Chest?
Hello. I have a large painful mass in my chest above my right breast. When it first began it only lasted for a few days and had gone down by the time I got to see a doctor. She said it was probably just some irritation because if it was something of concern it wouldn t have gone away. However, over the next few years it recurred several times. Then it began again and hasn t gone away now for over a year. Could this be an enlarged lymph node? For the last few years I ve also been chronically ill, and have been prevented from seeing a physician. I haven t been able to get a metanephrine test yet, but my symptoms are consistent with a catecholamine imbalance and pheochromocytomas run in my family. For example, my resting heart rate all day today has been between 120 and 145 and has some days has gone over 180. Could the mass be related to that? How scared do I need to be?
In most cases, this is just a swollen lymph node which doesn't require any specific treatment. Also, considering your description this may be some other benign subcutaneous lesion such as lipoma, fibroma or atheroma and if there are no skin changes such as redness, pus discharge or pain and fever then you should not be worried since it can be easily surgically removed under local anesthesia. Then there are doubts it can be sent to the patohistologic analysis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
