What Causes A Painful Lump On The Hand Of An Elderly Person?
I fell in my kitchen and hit the back / top of my head. No loss of consciousness. Lump fills my cupped hand. I am 71, in good health, fell fine except for the lump. No headache. Applying ice to the lump. What symptoms should I look for? I live alone.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi,
It can be most likely a hematoma (blood clot). This can occur due to muscle or tissue or bony injury.
If persistent pain is there then X-ray should be taken to rule out a fracture. Ice pack application is good for hematoma for the initial 3 to 5 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nishad BN, General & Family Physician
