Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Painful Lump On The Left Side Of The Neck?
My 28 yrs old daughter found an oval shaped lump on the left side of her neck about an inch long. It s hard & hurts if you press on it. She also has another lump on the lower part of the back right of her skull. That lump is a little bigger than a peach. Should we be concerned? She has not been sick.
These are areas where lymph nodes are found and the lumps you describe may very well be enlarged lymph nodes or glands. If that is the case, I suggest you visit her physician as early as possible as it may indicate a malignant condition like lymphoma.
Other possible causes are an infection like infectious mononucleosis or even lipoma (however, swelling will be soft and painless in lipoma, unless it is infected).
Hope this helps. Wishing her good health.
Regards, Dr Geeta
