What Causes A Painful Lump On Tongue Of An Infant?

My four month old has a sty and the tip of her tongue has red dots. I'm exclusively breastfeeding and it seems like her tongue is affecting our feedings. She has sufficient amount of diapers but my concern is could these symptoms be part of a major concern? She hasnt had a fever. She is teething. Her stools are normal. She seems more irritable than usual

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain sty is generally due to bacterial infection of the oil glands present in eye lids while red spots over the tongue can be inflammation of the gums during the teething period and can spread to other areas like tongue tip leading to inflamed tongue papillae..
I would suggest you to consult a Paediatrician and get her evaluated and she can advise her tylenol for relieveing pain and discomfort..Do cool compresses over the tongue for relief..
You should also check for any infections over your nipples or areola that might be infecting her tongue..
Increased irritability is commonly seen during teething due to discomfort that occurs in gums during teething caused due to inflammation..
Doing cool compresses over the gums too, maintaining good hygiene and also giving cooled teething rings can help..
