Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
this person is on Warfarin but it was discontinued on Friday June 24 for 7 days prior to having minor surgery on July1. on Thursday night, June 23 she bumped her right lower leg and there is now a small bump about the size of a dime and the area surrounding it is bruised. the bump is a dark purple color and looks like it is filled with blood. It is painful when her support hose is on that leg. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you for your help.
Definite reason is hematoma following warfarin withdrawal and alterations in coagulation parameters as a sequence. Primary guidelines for best recovery: - Immediate evaluation with bleeding and clotting time, active partial Thromboplastin time and platelet counts - Avoid any type of compression or injury over the hematoma region - Consider therapy options of tranexamic acid, ethamsylate or others with your treating physician for hematoma progress prevention.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
