Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 57, 5 2 , 140 lbs. Approximately every 2 months I have painful swelling in my wrists and sometimes my fingers draw up-can t make a fist or open them completely. The only relief for this is a steroid shot and or prednisone pills. I ve been to a neurologist that says it s not issues with my nerves, a rheumatologist says it s not RA...help!!
As per my clinical experience, the presence of pain with relief by steroid shot is the definite sign of inflammation involving the various joints of the wrist. It is possible to have many types of inflammation in the absence of RA and the same should be evaluated with the help of relevant blood tests, X-ray of the wrist with or without MRI of the concerned part.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wish you great health.
Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel, General & Family Physician
