What Causes A Painless Lump On The Armpit Of An Elderly Person?
I am a 71-year-old male.Yesterday morning I discovered A painless lump the size of a golf ball underneath my right arm. In my armpit. I went to my local internist who sent me for an x-ray and I am waiting for the results today. He mentioned I might need a CAT scan. Today the lump is still painless but I believe slightly larger I am of course hoping that this is just a cyst or lymph node reaction to some bacteria or something in my system and not cancer. What is the best way to proceed?

What Causes A Painless Lump On The Armpit Of An Elderly Person?
Hello, It could be either a Lymph node or a localized fat collection ( Lipoma ) Both are harmless condition and doesn t need to be taken out. A lymph node will reduce in size by itself over time but a lipoma will not reduce in size but may grow. Also if it is a lymph node there will be some other cause of its enlargement which needs to be found. Hence it is necessary to know what it is exactly. In that regard, I advise you to get FNAC test of the swelling and revert back with reports. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
