What Causes A Painless Lump Under The Left Armpit?

Hi. I am a 23 year old male. I have two lumps under my left armpit. The first one came into being around Dec last year. Initially it was a decent sized lump and was painful. However, within a week or two it decreased in size and stopped paining anymore. Now it is a tiny lump without any pain. The second one too started in a similar fashion around June this year. It is undergoing a similar change like the former, and at present it is a decent sized lump without any pain. It has also decreased in size. I have consulted two doctors regarding the same. Both opined that those were simple boils with pus which did not heal completely. They reiterated that it is not a lymph node swelling issue. The later physician prescribed a meeting with a surgeon which I did have. The surgeon said that it will heal eventually and gave some antibiotics. It is to be noted that I was suffering from gall bladder stones and infection since November last year approx (which was confirmed very recently) and have already undergone cholecystectomy last week. Currently on the path to recovery. Kindly suggest what is to be done regarding the lumps? Or should I just leave them alone.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

From your description, I am of the opinion that these lumps are simply subcutaneous fibroids and caused sometimes in cases of Neurofibromatosis type 2 which is quite common. Obesity also contributes to the same. These are just cosmetic problem until and unless it is causing some compression on any nerves and vessels around it. You can leave it just like that. No problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
