my daughter was diving platform and upon her entry she felt a pop in her left ear. Took her to urgent care and they said perforated eardrum. She had a cold the prior week that kept her on the tailend of being stuffy. She also thought she hit her arm on her ear during her entry into the water. Any thoughts? Have only been to urgent care because it happened this weekend. Going to ENT hopefully tomorrow. She doesn t want to be out of practice for more than a week. We have no experience with this

General & Family Physician, Dr. Imran Zeb's Response
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I read your query and here is my answer. It looks like the ear drum has been injured because of trauma while diving. But there is no need to worry about. You just need to remove the blood from the ear, clean the ear and take some pain killer medication. If you think the water wouldn't be clean, then you may take prophylactic antibiotics. Give it sometime and it will heel in a week or so in most of the cases. In case it doesn't, then it can be repaired by surgery. Till that avoid water getting into the ear. Hope i answered your question. Feel free to ask more if you need further assistance. Thanks.
