What Causes A Persistent Brown Vaginal Discharge With Foul Odor?
Ive been having brown discharge with a foul odor. I ve been to the doctor 2 times the first time they said that I had a urinary tract infection i took pills for that the second time they told me i had a urinary tract infection i took pill for that. And the discharge is still there..! Can anybody help me or give me advice .???
Vaginal discharge in a sexually active female that is malodorous is usually treated with empirical broad spectrum antibiotics i.e. three different drugs that cover numerous different bacteria.
In certain cases a topical gel like metronidazole gel can be used.
I am unsure why you were treated twice for a urinary infection, although this is common in females, it is unusual to have a persistent discharge from a urinary infection. I suggest you do a urine test to rule out an infection.
Ideally you should visit your doctor and receive antibiotics for vaginitis. If the discharge doesn't clear you can send off a sample of the discharge to the lab to identify the specific cause. You should also have your doctor do a vaginal examination and once the discharge is treated, have a pap smear to rule out cervical disease from HPV.
Hope this helps.
