What Causes A Popping Sound In The Left Rib And Breathing Difficulty?

Hi On Monday I was doing pilates and heard a pop in my left front rib. By the end of the night it was very painful but nothing agonizing. I had a hard time sleeping on my side. Today there was a minor pop again and now it hurts to breethe. I am wondering when to get this checked out or if it is just a pulled muscle. Thanks Debby YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

According to history it could be fractured rib or costochondritis like musculoskeletal pain...

Local part digital x ray should be done to rule out fracture

Ibuprofen or Naproxen like anti-inflammatory drug needs to be prescribed for five days

Avoid strenuous work

Take rest

Avoid bad sleep posture and avoid movement causing pain

Warm compress useful

For fracture rib bandage can be applied

Take care

Consult orthopedic surgeon for examination and further work up
