What Causes A Pulsating Sensation In The Neck?

I have been experiencing a different pulsating sensation in my neck. This is not steady and doesn t happen daily. It seems to happen on sides and under my chin. I don t feel any lumps of any kind in my neck, but wonder if this could be thyroid related. I m not familiar with thyroid symptoms, but my older sister was diagnosed with this issue. I m currently 54 years old, in pretty good health, exercise regularly, and eat fairly healthy. Any thoughts what this might be?
