What Causes A Pulsing Sensation Around The Navel Region?

Why do I feel a pulsating sensation coming from around my belly button? Already had a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy and nothing was found, apart from a small inflammation in the small intestine ( the part which goes into the colon ) . They took some tissue samples there for biopsy. I am bloating all the time and I had just a smidgen of blood in my stool. So with all those symptoms, what do you think could be the problem? Since no one yet has been able to give me a diagnosis.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history and understood the concerns.
The sensation of pulsation around belly button can be due to the following reasons:
If you are lean and thin person then the pulsations of the abdominal aorta are easily felt around umbilicus and this is the commonest reason.
If there is any inflammatory reason below the belly button then the other symptoms are severe enough and needs admission and may be surgery, like any collection of pu like in perforated appendicitis, diverticulitis.
There can be a lump between the abdominal aorta and the abdominal wall.
Since you have already undergone colonoscopy, endoscopy and biopsy I would advise you the following:
CT scan of abdomen will solve the problem.
Consult a General Surgeon for proper clinical examination so that a proper diagnosis is made and if required the further management if the cause is found.
If this is physiological due to lean and thin abdomen then nothing needs to be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
