Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have recently had blood test done which have clarfied that my bruising is not caused by the Clopidagrel that I have been on since last July, following a TIA. Those blood tests also clarified that I have a blood clotting deficiency of some type. My GP has just referred me to Haemotology at the hospital for further tests . I woke up this morning with a purple bruise on my inner thigh, I have not knocked it. I have just looked at it again this evening and it is much darker purple and there are now purple, bold lines going through it. Should I go to casuality or wait to here from Haematology? All my bruises have hard lumps in them.
Dermatologic conditions are hard to discuss without seeing them.
1) They can't really tell from a blood test whether the clopidagrel is causing bruising of a minor nature--just that the platelet number is not affected by it
2) there are several things that make one worry about a bruise, starting with the volume of blood. If it is enough to make a displacement of tissue (having a lump) then it is a relatively large amount of blood and that could be serious.
Sometimes a third option of going to someone to just get labs is faster than going to an ER. I cannot say in your particular case, but generally, assessment of blood count doesn't require hospital ER's.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
