Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Purple Spot On The Tonsil While Having Tonsilloliths?
I have just noticed a purple/blue thick, uneven vein-looking thing on my right tonsil, which I only just noticed. I suffer with tonsil stones and I ve been prodding at my tonsils with wet Q-tips to remove them and my tonsils over the last few days have become swollen, particularly the one that i ve been removing tonsil stones from, and they are sore but not when I swallow. I really want to know if I should be concerned about that purple area on my tonsil
When this happens, the debris can become concentrated in white formations that occur in the pockets.
Tonsil stones, or tonsilloliths, are formed when this trapped debris hardens or calcifies. This tends to happen most often in people who have chronic inflammation in their tonsils or repeated bouts of tonsillitis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Esmeralda Sera, Oncologist
