What Causes A Pus Filled Patch On The Scalp With Discharge?
My 2 year old daughter has a patch in her head on scalp that is hard and getting bigger and constantly leaking pus i have tried anti fungals both on the sore and in a fluid by mouth antibiotics and everything and nothing is working she says her head hurts and she is being very fussy also starting to get diarreah (spelling) and fever what can it be or what do i need to do?? Please help
the wound in your child's scalp is probably an abscess. a consult with a general surgeon would be best for physical examination, possible further diagnostic examination (i.e. ct-scan) and management (medical and if there are indications, surgical). depending on the extent of involvement and severity of the wound, antibiotics will be prescribed accordingly. if it's severe, IV antibiotics and admission will be needed. surgical management (incision and drainage) will be dependent on the doctor's assessment. it is important to see a doctor because if it is infective, it might spread on the nearest organ or structures in your child's head.
hope this helps.
good day!!
