Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 3 year old grandson received stitches in his arm on sunday after falling from a tree and now this evening there is yellow pus and a very foul smell coming from that cut. We took him in yesterday with a low grade fever and were given an antibiotic but now the cut looks a lot worse and is painful. Should I take him in to er tonight or is it something that I can wait til morning? I didn t notice the pus until after this afternooon.
It looks like the stitch site is infected leading to oozing of pus and foul smell. A low-grade fever also seems to be due to it. So my suggestion is to consult a pediatrician and get him checked. This might need drainage and proper antiseptic dressing can be done. Along with it, the antibiotic has to be continued and painkiller if there is a pain. But better not to delay as if the infection is not controlled then it can lead to worsening and no healing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora, Dentist
