What Causes A Racing Heartbeat?

Hi, I have had type 2 diabetes for a couple of years now, i am 51,overweight but my medication [metformin 5oomg 3xper day plus 5mg ramipril once per day keeps me ok.Recently i have been experiencing a racing heartbeat and the feeling as if i am going to pass out, this usualy only lasts for about 15 to 20 seconds at the most, its as if i have been holding my breath subconciously then letting it out again. Any ideas please as what could be the cause.

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, such feeling of rapid heart beat could be due to some over consciousness, it is advisable to get done the EKG because without this nothing can be said if thins is okay then no need to worry about this, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day.
