What Causes A Raised Bump With Clear Fluid Discharge From The Finger?

My daughter sent me a photo of a raised bump with a red center on her pointer finger. it doesn t itch and isn t red (except for the center). She said there is a clear fluid when she tried to squeeze it but no pus. I am a RN but didn t recognize this. He dermatologist cannot see her for another 9 days. Any ideas on what this could be and what the treatment is?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The raised bump with clear fluid discharge may be part of sterile hematoma, cyst eruption after burns type event or else. Primary guidelines at present:
- Sterile dressing with normal saline
- Local application of polymycin cream
- Ice packing of area
- Preventing needle use or poking of the finger
- Discuss the need of antibiotics with her doctor for better resolution and prevent secondary bacterial infection

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
