What Causes A Rash On The Body After Taking Tamiflu?

Hi, I was given prophylactic Tamiflu due to my child having flu. 48 hrs later I developed a rash whicn continued to pop up on my left side only for an additional 48 hrs. Returned to urgent care today and was Dx with shingles and given Valtrex. I ve read in the pharmacy paperwork that Tamiflu could cause a rash that presents like shingles and when a rash develops while taking Tamiflu, the drug should be stopped immediately. However, urgent care physician said I should keep taking Tamiflu for another four days as well as start Valtrex for what she suspects is shingles. Thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It could be due to allergic eruption to Tamiflu.

As a first line management, you can take antihistamines like Pheniramine for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
