What Causes A Rash On The Upper Chest While On Cortizone-10?

I have rash on upper chest. Have used cortisone 10, lac lotion and other creams that dermatologists have prescribed for something else. I have cortisone 10 mg that I take occasionally for asthama, but it s under control. Do u think this could be viral? Should I see a dr. Tomorrow?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It would be best not to use the oral steroid for the rash. The use of oral steroids should be limited to when absolutely needed.

Viral illnesses can sometimes be associated with a rash but in most cases, there are additional symptoms caused by viral infection.

Causes of rash - infection (fungal, bacterial, viral), allergies, a side effect of the medication.

If the rash is severe or has been there for a prolonged period of time- then you should be seen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
