I had stomach surgery to repair perforated ulcers3 weeks ago Staples have been removed last Monday and now there is an area that is red and hot to the touch on the outside. Very tender. Feels like a knot under the skin. What could it be? I have 2 layers of stitches under the skin. Trying to see my Dr. tomorrow but worried tonight! Any Islas on what could of happened?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned about the changes that you are noticing.

It is possible that there may not be a problem but in some cases, redness, tenderness and increased warmth can indicate that an infection is present.
If this is the case, then antibiotics would be needed.

The presence of any foreign body can result in an infection occurring.

If you are not able to get an appointment to see your doctor, it would be best to seek medical attention elsewhere, so that you can be treated.

I hope this helps
