What Causes A Red Lump On The Thumb Finger Post A Ligament Repair Surgery?
I had surgery on my left thumb 7/9/2017 ligaments repaired and then wore a cast for 3 weeks and it was removed a couple of weeks ago. stitches were removed ten days after surgery and then the cast put on. now my thumb has a big lump on the joint area and it is very red and swollen. could there be a infection inside?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If swelling is painful and red, possibly wound infection is there. Do you have any other symptoms like fever, malaise or body ache?
Ibuprofen will give symptomatic relief from inflammatory pain, however, you need to consult treating surgeon to rule out infection and for starting antibiotics, if required.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Hiren
