What Causes A Red Rash At The Skull Base Radiating Behind The Ear?

I have a feeling like a sunburn on mu scalp on the left side at the base of my skull, radiating to behind my left ear, under he left mandible, and now beginning inside my left ear. Could this be shingles. I have had chicken pox. I am a female age 57. It is not severe and there is no rash.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you have no pain this is unlikely to be shingles or important conditions such as cellulitis (bacterial infection).

I would recommend you to use a combination of a steroid cream with an antifungal (you may also take betamethasone cream and miconazole cream and use them simultaneously) twice a day for a week.

If you notice no improvement with this treatment in 3-4 days or if there is any worsening or if you have any pain you will need to see your doctor.

I hope this answers your query.
I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
