My daughter called me saying my grandson has a red rash from his inner elbow to his arm pits down to his side and red slightly swollen and water seems to bother him but once she got him cleaned up he seems fine but she is worried about it ... she is home by herself, her husband is a cop and just left for work ... any ideas what it could be??

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

This is Lymphangitis and it should be treated as follows:

Analgesics can be used to control pain, and anti-inflammatory medications can help to reduce inflammation and swelling. Hot, moist compresses also help to reduce inflammation and pain.

And when possible, elevate and immobilize affected areas to reduce swelling, pain, and the spread of infection. An abscess may require surgical drainage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
