What Causes A Red Sore On The Lip After Taking Amoxicillin?

My son began taking amoxicillin for strep yesterday. Tonight at dinner he complained that he couldn t eat because his lips hurt. They are very very red and have what looks like a cold sore on one side. After looking up side effects, I am concerned he is allergic to amoxicillin. My father and my older son both have allergies to amoxicillin. My question is, what should I do? Try benedeyl or take him to the E.R? The instacares are all closed tonight.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A photo of the red sores on his side and lips are due to strep throat.

Keep good oral hygiene. Apply glycerin of borax locally for the sores.

Gargle with warm water and salt.

If still no improvement, or if it will cause swollen lips or eyes or other allergy symptoms, should send to ER.

For the moment, those sores are from a strep infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini,
