What Causes A Red Vertical Line On The Big Toes?

I have a red line running vertical - from top to bottom of my big toes. Both toes and it s a little off center towards my second toe. What doe this mean. I did not injure my toes and o n one toe it s splitting my toenail down the center of the red line.

Red streaks underneath the toenails or fingernails could be broken blood vessels known as splinter hemorrhages. These occur when small blood clots damage the tiny capillaries under the nails. They can signal endocarditis, an infection of the heart's inner lining.
