What Causes A Seizure?

My 15 year old had a seizure at school yesterday. In the emergency room, he had a CAT scan, ECO, and blood work. There was no cause to be found. He will go to a neurologist next. Since our return home yesterday devening, he has run low grade fevers, and is hurting all over his body. He did go to school today, but thought of coming home. His body is stiff and it s hard for him to bend. Should I just keep an eye on him til tomorrow?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, the seizure can be from abnormally excessive or synchronous neuronal activity in the brain from variety of reasons.

As the CT scan is normal, it is quite fine for him, still I would recommend to get Neurologist opinion for further guidelines.

Till that time
@ Do not panic.
@ Tepid sponging of body in case of fever.
@ Tablet Paracetamol for temperature control.
@ Maintain hydration with more liquids.
@ Be careful about his surroundings, in which there should not be any sharp objects.
@ Do not let him unattended.

Wish him fine health.

Take care.
