what causes a single rib fracture in baby back left the 9th all other test for abuse have not shown shaken baby

Since the new born still will have catilagenous bones which takes some time to ossify, it is not unusual to have rib fracture.

Handle the baby smoothly which would be preventive aspect.

Hi welcome to Healthcaremagic

The above condition is called as battered Baby syndrome... in case of child abuse, the parents may beat, or violently shake the baby.., hence there will be bruises , abrasions , some times fractures and concussion of the brain also.. the baby must be in detail clinically evaluated to confirm the diagnosis.... rough handling of child would have resulted in rib fracture...
