What Causes A Skin Tag On The Back Of A Child?

Hi Doctor,

I have given birth to a baby girl a week ago. The nurses and the doctors detected a VERY tiny extra skin on her back in the midline between the buttocks and said to me not to worry at all as there is no opening. However they still strongly sugggested to see the baby's family doctor. When i took my baby to the family doctor, the family doctor felt she should be seen by a pediatrition. we still haven't seen the pediatrition, however, i'm very concerened as the doctor mentioned two thing of which one is very alerting, she said soetimes it could be a case of spina bifida. I was not told this at the hospital at all and they dischared the baby based on that all the tests were normal and that she was a healthy baby. Until I see the pediatrition, I'm sick worried that I can't even think straight or do any daily routine which needs be done for my fanily. Are there any photos on a website which I can go to and see so I can get an idea of what this extra skin is and whether the location o it is higher up or lower down? At the hospital they referred to it as a skin tag, family doctor refereed to it as "maybe" a pilonidal sinus with the mention of spina bifida on a different occasion. Kindly enlighten me with anything as I'm REALLY concerned.

Thank you very much in advance.

Pediatrician, Surgery 's  Response
thanks for the consultation.
First of all it is not worrisome.
If you have picture then more clear for decision.
if the skin is closed over this area then unlikely spina bifida.
this looks like more sacral sinus or pit or cleft at this area which usually do not need any surgical intervention.
some times lumbo sacral X-ray can show deeper association if there is any.
they grow normal without any residual deficit.
