What Causes A Small Bump With White Dots On The Back Of Throat?
I had my tonsils removed several years ago and I just had a virus. I had an itchy throat at the beginning of the virus and towards the time I started feeling better my left ear felt funny like there was possibly fluid in it. I checked my throat today because the left side where my tonsils used to be near the base of my tongue was sore. I saw a pea sized bump coming off my throat. It s the same color as the rest of my mouth and has a tiny brown patch on it that you c an barely see. I am a former smoker and in November started vaping instead. There are tiny white dots in the mucus membrane at the back of my throat so it could be an infection but I am paranoid that it s throat cancer. Please help! I have a video of my throat showing the bump and white dots.
Small bump with white dots on the back of the throat is commonly caused by exposure to a chemical irritant or bacterial, viral or fungal infection like strep throat, tonsillitis, oral thrush, etc. White patches are commonly signs of syphilitic or chlamydial infections.
Get clinically examined by an ENT, get swab test, sputum test and other required investigations done. Get STD tests done to stay on the safer side. If positive, you will be treated with antibiotics / antivirals. Take warm liquids, plenty of rest and do warm salt gargle at least twice daily.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
