Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes A Small Indentation On The Wall Of The Mouth?
Age:8, Gender: Male
My 8 year old son has a small hole in the back wall of his mouth. He has seen a number of GPs and Consultants. None of them know what it is or can explain it. They are not going to continue to review it as they say it is not a problem. I would like to know how what it is and if anything should be done. It appeared 2 years ago... he wasn't born with it. It occasionally seals over and looks a bit like a clear blister, and releases tonsil stones. Then it becomes a hole again. It is not a crevice... it is a hole through the back wall. I would really appreciate some advice. It is not reassuring when nobody knows what it is and then decide to stop reviewing it! Thankyou in advance.
Thanks for your query. Small indentation on the wall of the mouth could be minor salivary gland swelling, canker sore, traumatic mucosal injury and could be vitamin deficiency.
I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day , avoid hot and spicy food , keep your stress level low and start taking vitamin supplement containing vitamin B12 and folic acid.
If condition doesn't get resolve in week then consult dentist or oral pathologist for proper examination and to rule out other conditions . Doctor may prescribe antiseptic mouthwash like listerine . lignocaine gel for pain or burning or may remove hanging mucosa surgically .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
