Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I HAVE NOTICED A SMALL LUMP AT THE BACK OF MY THROAT ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE. I HAD A CLOSER LOOK TODAY AND SAW WHAT LOKKED LIKE BROKEN BLOOD VESELS NEXT TO IT. MY THROAT FEELS DRY ALL THE TIME AND I DONT FEEL AS THOUGH I AM PRODUCING ENOUGH SALIVA AT THE MOMENT. WHEN I TURN MY HEAD TO THE RIGHT MY NECK FEELS SORE (I HAD MY TONSILS REMOVED OVER 20 YEARS AGO.)
You are suffering from a small lump on the back of your throat. It is indicative of pharyngitis. It is commonly caused by viral or bacterial infections. Stress, anxiety and GERD, acid reflux may trigger the symptoms. Avoid stress, take sips of water throughout the day. Stay in a room where humidifier is kept so that you are more comfortable.
Gargle your throat with water and salt three times daily. Get clinically examined by an ENT, get required tests including swab test for the throat to detect strep A or viral infection. You will be treated accordingly with a course of oral antibiotics and analgesics. Cough lozenges will help. It gets well in a week or 10 days. Take liquid food or semi solid food so that you do not hurt your throat mucosa. Give voice rest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
