Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My almost 6 month old grandaughter has developed a lump on her chest...just below her shoulder blade, but more to the center of her chest. It is about pea sized and firm, but not hard. Called the doctors and they won t see her til next friday. How concerned should we be?
Hello I have gone through your question and understand your concern. It is not unusual for newborn to develop a firm lump on chest called breast bud, due to exposure to high levels of hormones in womb. Some newborn also secrete milk, some present with acne, some with swollen genitals and even vaginal discharge mimicking periods. This is quite normal and caused due to maternal hormones and will subside in few months. Get it examined by a doctor to rule out any other cause, most likely the lump present is a harmless breast bud and requires no medical treatment. Nor will it cause any medical concerns in future, so relax. Good luck. Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
