Hello and Welcome to HCM
Thank you for your query.
I completely understand your concern.
As per your history,The lump requires an examination to determine if it is on the top (wrist side) or palm side of the hand.
Fixation or movement with hand open/close maneuver is also important. If it is on the top it is more likely related to an
injury or poorly healed fracture; however there are other possibilities. On the palm, it is more likely to be a
ganglion.
The doctor may ask for Tests including X-rays, scans, blood tests and particularly in the hand electrical tests (known as EMGs or Neurophysiology). These may be used to help make or confirm a diagnosis after your detailed history and examination.
With solid lumps in the hand the diagnosis is usually obvious after listening to and examining a patient.
Occasionally the surgeon will request an
MRI scan to show the extent of the lump particularly if it is large. This helps plan the operation rather than making a definitive diagnosis which requires surgery
If there is a chance the lump may be a
cyst (see information sheet) the surgeon may attempt to suck out fluid from it with a needle (aspiration). This is performed under local
anesthetic.
Therefore I recommend you to
consult a general surgeon for this issue,as he can take up on your issue asap.
Thank You.
