What Causes A Small Sore Spot On The Head?

I fell on Friday on a wet floor in our basement and hit my head really hard against a block cement wall. I broke out in a sweat and felt sick. After covering myself with a cold towel, I began to feel OK. I have a sore spot on my head about the size of a half dollar. I feel fine and have not had any ill effects from this fall that I can detect. Do you think it is necessary for me to have a scan? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello sir,
Thank you for posting on HCM.
We usually do a brain scan following a head injury only if the patient has some significant symptoms or signs which may be immediate or delayed.
It includes loss of consciousness, disotientation, confusion, behavioral changes, ringing in the ears, loss or disturbance in vision, seizures, nausea or vomiting, bleeding from ears, nose or the site of injury. From your history i understand that you do not have any significant indicators of brain trauma. The sore spot is natural after hitting the head but it is not sufficient to advise a scan.
So if you were my patient I would prescribe you some mild pain medication and advise you to resume your daily activities.
I hope i have helped you.
Thank you.
