What Causes A Snapping Sensation In The Knee?

I am feeling a snapping sensation in my right knee, although it isn t very audible. I cannot seem to fully extend the knee when standing or walking, so I find that I am stressing my glutes and ankles more on that leg when I walk, which impedes my mobility. It isn t particularly painful unless I try to fully extend the right leg, as one does when standing or walking normally. I haven t suffered an injury that I am aware of, but I m 67 and have arthritis. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi

Common causes for your symptoms are:

1.age related degeneration of knee joint(osteoarthritis)especially roughening of the back of the kneecap bone called patellofemoral arthritis.

2.Loose bodies in the knee joint.

3.neglected partial or completed tear of the ligament inside knee joint(acl ligament)

An initial evaluation by physiotherapist for strengthening the musckes around your joint will help.

If it us troubling you still pl consult your orthopaedic surgeon for further evaluation and management.

Hooe thus helos.
