What Causes A Soft Tissue Mass Near The Aorta In Case Of Cervical Cancer?
My mom was diagoned with cervical cancer in 2009 recieved chemo and radiation and was in remission for 3 months then the cancer came back in the orginal spot and she had to have a total pelvic exteneration in 2010 and now we had a CAT scan for various complications from the surgery. The CAT scan showed a 4centimeter soft tissue mass near her aorta. We have follow up testing scheduled. I am wondering in part b/c I have never heard of this, if this is common and can you take chemo and radiation or it would radiation damage the aorta? Just trying to find some answers or someone who is in a similar situation and can't find much on the net. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

After hearing your history as she has cervical cancer i think the soft tissue mass near her aorta could be a lesion.
I would advise you to do a PET scan.
If any lesion is found then biopsy has to be done from the soft tissue mass to prove it is cancerous or not.
Sometimes cervical cancer can spread to other parts of body called metastasis and that is why biopsy is necessary.
If radiation is needed it can be gone ahead with it and it will not cause any damage to the aorta.
