What Causes A Sore And Swollen Lymph Node Behind The Neck?

I ve got a very sore & swollen lymph node on the back of my head for over a week. Went to urgent care they checked my blood for infection however blood was fine. It is feeling better but now I have a marble size node right next to it with no pain at all. Also have a couple of small nodes on bottom of neck that just appeared today. Neither have pain. Just concerned what the heck is going on as I ve never had issues like this before. I m 52 if that matters.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
are many medical conditions that may cause swollen and sore lymph nodes. Possible causes may include:
• Infections (viral ,bacterial)
• Lymph node tuberculosis
• Immune system disorders
Lymphoma, leukemia, and others

I will suggest you see the doctor for examination and tests. Tests that may help include: full blood count, ESR and if needed, node biopsy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
