General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there,

I received your medical query, read it carefully and understood your concern.

You are worried about a streak of light out of the corner of your eye first time this morning. These flashes of light occur when the gel in our eyes becomes more liquid. They don't last for long time, and you notice them more when you go from darkness to light, which I think happened in your case.

If you moved your head suddenly to the right or left, then, the vitreous humor is hitting to the retina causing the streak of light showing up.

If your flashes of light are accompanied with a shadow at the edge of the vision you should direct yourself to an ophthalmologist because there is a big chance to have retinal tearing.

Migraine is a common cause of these eye 'fireworks' so check if you have often headaches or not.

If the flashes continue to appear, then, should see eye doctor for further evaluation.

Hope this was helpful.
