What Causes A Sudden Bruise On The Groin Area While Having High BP And Diabetes?

My dad is 76 and has a low platelet count in the recent past with his blood tests improving. He has high blood pressure and diabetes also a nasty itchy rash on his lower leg and ankle that has been around for years and the doctor said he would take it to grave with him. The frightening thing that has happened in the past week is that hew has developed bruising in his groin area for no reason and is worried. His next check with the blood specialist is in 4 weeks time. is it ok to wait?

Hi. Sorry to hear about the ailment of your dad. Lets recall some basic information . Platelets are an important component of blood taking part in the process of blood clotting. You you have not provided the values of platelet count so it can not be said with surity that new arising bruise is due to low platelets count. If we assume so then formation of spontaneous bruises is the phenomenon indicating that platelet count is dangerously low and you need to visit emergency room for evaluation and further management. It condition is static and there are no more bew bruises other than groin and patient is vitally stable ( pulse rate is normal and b.p is maintained and urine output is good) then you can wait for regular appointment but with caution. Stay ready to visit ER in case of any more bruises or instability of vital (again pulse , b.p and urine output). Wishing you best of health. Regards
