What Causes A Sudden Swelling Below The Right Ear?
I have developed some swelling below my right ear. It came on very suddenly - within about 30 minutes. I have not had a bee sting or any other insect bite that I am aware of. The swelling is about half the size of a large egg cut in half. I do not have a fever nor is the sight feverish. There is no pain. There is some pressure internally on my right ear. I did take one Benadryl. Any idea of what I should doing from here?
I can understand your concern. The area you have described contains lymph nodes that swell up when the draining area is infected, here, ear and TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) are the draining areas.
As you are feeling pressure in the ear, there is a chance that you are suffering from ear infection. I would advise you to visit an ENT specialist for clinical examination of the ear. You might need antibiotics if the infection is diagnosed.
However, if the ENT specialist rules out ear infection, you should consider the possibility of TMJ infection and should consult an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for clinical examination and foci of infection in the TMJ or oral cavity.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
